1913 Grover Cleveland Alexander by Paul Thompson Type I Photograph

1913 Grover Cleveland Alexander by Paul Thompson Type I Photograph

Originally from "The Ring". Here is Alexander the Great, a.k.a. Pete Alexander, warming up on the sidelines for the Phillies. In this year, 1913, he was merely great, going 22-8 with a 2.79 ERA for the second place Phillies. His sensational years, such as winning 27, 31, 33, and 30 games, from 1915-1918, were just ahead. The photo shows his still youthful face and trim physique - in contrast to photos of the late-career Alexander, when so many seasons under the sun and his alcoholism made his likeness seem older than his age. Verso of photo has stamp of Paul Thompson, one of the great pre-wire transmission photographers.
