1913 New York Americans Team Photograph - The First Team Called the Yankees! (PSA Type I)

1913 New York Americans Team Photograph - The First Team Called the Yankees! (PSA Type I)

Tremendous and very historic Type I panoramic photo may be the very first time the team was photographed as the New York Yankees as this was taken in Spring Training of 1913. Names on the back of this 8.75x4" classic in pencil, include Chance (his first year with the NY club), and Chase. In baseball's early years team nicknames were less formal and it was not unusual for teams to have multiple names. Before 1913 they were nicknamed the Highlanders as they played at Hilltop Park, but they dropped that name in favor of the Yankees moniker (which was also being used at the time) upon their move to the Polo Grounds that season. Very rare image, first time we have seen this one; spectacular find unearthed in the archive of the Brown Brothers photo service, the era's industry leader founded in 1904. Encapsulated PSA Type I Authentic.
