1913 New York Yankees Team Glass Plate Negative- First Year The Team Was Called The Yankees!

1913 New York Yankees Team Glass Plate Negative- First Year The Team Was Called The Yankees!

Great history in this one of a kind, original, from the camera, glass plate negative depicting the 1913 New York baseball team from their first season bearing the now-iconic Yankees name. Crisp image in this 5x7" negative is not a formal team shot, but shows the players stretched out in a line, presumably during practice or pregame. Team images of that squad have previously sold for thousands of dollars and this is of greater value as it is the one-and-only of its type in existence. Previously known as the Highlanders, the media played a role in adopting the new nickname as the team moved from their previous hilltop digs to the base of Coogan's Bluff near the Harlem River. More terrific content from the Brown Brothers collection.
