1913 New York Yankees Team Photograph - First Year as Yankees (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph picturing 28 members of the New York Yankees in 1913. This is a historic photo because it might be the earliest known image of the club dating from the year that they officially changed their name from the Highlanders to the Yankees. The club is pictured standing shoulder-to-shoulder as they pose together on the field during spring training. The year can be conclusively pinpointed to 1913 through player identification. Both player/manager Frank Chance (14th from the right) and first baseman Hal Chase (10th from the right) are clearly visible here. Chance was with the Yankees only during the two-year span 1913-1914, while Chase was traded in mid-season of 1913 and did not play with the club in 1914. This is just the second example of this photo we have ever seen, with both originating from the Brown Brothers Archive. The photo (6.5x4.75”) displays a chip in the lower left corner and a few light surface wrinkles. In Very Good condition overall. Culled from the Legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
