1914 B18 Sewn Blanket Quilt 44 Total w/41 Different
Sewn display of 1914 B18 Blankets (44), highlighted by the individual blankets of Ty Cobb, ‘Rabbit’ Maranville, Zack Wheat, Miller Huggins, and Walter Johnson (2). One of the better blankets we have seen as to the players present - the individual blankets of Chance, Baker, Robinson, Connolly are also included. These 5.25” squares of ‘flannel baseball cards’ were issued in 1914 and included in several popular brands of tobacco. They are referred to as ‘blankets’ because they were meant to be sewn together to create bed covers, pillowcases, etc. as is the case here. This display has been carefully crafted to a total dimension of 19x26” and presents in Excellent condition; there is some color fading and minor staining on a few of the individual blankets. The Cobb and Johnson blankets are particularly clean and strong. A beautifully sewn display piece utilizing B18s for their intended purpose, assembled at the time of issue.
