1914 Boston Red Sox vs. Washington Senators Opening Day Panoramic Signed By Joe Wood
The 1914 Philadelphia Athletics ran away from the pack for the pennant, but the two next-best teams in the Junior Circuit that season are featured here in this gorgeous panoramic culled from the Halper collection. The framed photo, which measures 45.5" x 9.75", features the second-place Red Sox and third-place Washington Senators. It is signed twice by Joe Wood and thus inscribed: "BARRY I RECALL OUR VISIT AT THE BOSTON BASEBALL SHOW IN NOV. OF LAST YEAR AND THE FACT THAT YOU CAME UP FROM NEW JERSEY TO SAY HELLO JOE WOOD." It is in EX condition and includes great images from Joe Wood and Tris Speaker of the Sox and and Walter Johnson of Washington. The bottom reads: "OPENING GAME OF THE SEASON AT FENWAY PARK "BOSTON RED SOX" AND "WASHINGTON SENATORS" APRIL 14, 1914, BOSTON, MASS." Johnson would pitch a gem that day as the Senators would win the game, 3-0.
