1914 "Miracle" Boston Braves World Championship Leather

1914 "Miracle" Boston Braves World Championship Leather

The 1914 Boston "Miracle Braves" were famous for one of the most amazing comebacks in baseball<br>history. The team was in last place in the National League in early July, with a record of 26-40. Then, in two months, the team rocketed to first place and never looked back, winning 68 of the next 87 games and taking the NL pennant with a record of 94-59. Then, manager George Stallings' team swept the powerhouse Philadelphia Athletics of Connie Mack in four games in the World Series. Offered is a remarkable 23" x 24" fringed leather pillow top with "World Champions" and "Boston Braves" emblazoned in text on the pillow top to commemorate the miraculous season. The aforementioned text brackets the photographic image in the center of the item, a team picture. In the first row of the image is the Hall of Fame double-play combination of the Braves: second baseman Johnny Evers and shortstop Rabbit Maranville. Around the edges of this piece are factory manufactured tassels and a stitched leather band that was used to fasten the piece to a pillow. There is no additional stitching on either the tassels or the leather band, and the tassels and band are thus original and unrestored, unusual for such an item. Of course, an amount of surface wear is apparent as the pillow top shows evident use. Part of the leather band on the top is missing. Also, there is creasing on the photo section and some scratching on the image. This type of leather pillow top is extremely rare and even more so in the Excellent condition of this piece.
