1915 Boston Americans and Boston Nationals Official Schedules
Displayed are the 1915 schedules for both the Boston Americans (Red Sox) and the Boston Nationals (Braves). In 1915, the Boston Americans (Red Sox) had a superb season as they won the World Series, taking the Philadelphia Phillies in five games. At bat, Hall of Fame outfielder Tris Speaker hit .322 to lead the regulars. Hall of Famer Babe Ruth, still a pitcher, in 102 at bats batted .315 and in this dead ball era, led the team with four home runs. On the mound, Ruth went 18-8, and fellow Hall of Famer Smoking Joe Wood went 15-5. The Boston Nationals (Braves) finished in second place in the National League with an 83-69 record. Pitcher Dick Rudolph went 22-19, and the team had future Hall of Famers as a double play combination: Rabbit Maranville at shortstop and Johnny Evers at second base. The schedules were once a four-page folding two team schedule that has since become detached. After the passage of over a hundred years, the schedules exhibit a few tiny tears and some minor paper loss. Naturally, the schedules show significant darkening. These schedules were sponsored by The Senate Cafe, the self-proclaimed "Best Gent's Cafe in Boston." The schedules show a number of interesting details. "Base ball" is still being spelled as two words. The predominant names for the teams are Americans and Nationals, rather than Red Sox and Braves. And in a charming nod to the past, instead of showing games as "home and away," the contests are listed as "home and abroad." The schedules make for a nostalgic, vintage memento.
