1915 World Series Press Pin

1915 World Series Press Pin

Presented is a press pin from the 1915 World Series, the only World Series appearance for The Philadelphia Phillies until 1950. The pin was for the first two games of the Series, held at Philadelphia's Baker Bowl. The Series pitted the Phillies against the Boston Red Sox, with Boston winning the Series in five games. Hall of Famers in this World Series: Bill Klem and Bill Evans, umpires. For Boston - Harry Hooper, Herb Pennock (DNP), Babe Ruth, and Tris Speaker. For Philadelphia - Grover Cleveland Alexander, Dave Bancroft, and Eppa Rixey. Despite winning 18 regular season games, pitcher Babe Ruth appeared in only one game, grounded out as a pinch hitter in Game 1, the only game won by the Phillies. A red ribbon, approximately 2" in length, hands from a metal pin, about 1" in height at its tallest. The pin reads," World's Series Phila. 1915." The pin displays the "Scales of Justice." The ribbon has been replaced/restored, in an amazing job. The red ribbon shows faded color and has the word "Press" imprinted upon it. Attached to the bottom of the ribbon is a circular (1.5" diameter) metal artistic rendering that depicts a player, dressed as an American Colonial, pitching on a diamond as he stands upon what seems to be Philadelphia's Independence Hall. The press pin is a wonderful nostalgic look at the past, when baseball was spelled "base ball" and the World Series was spelled "World's Series." The World Series of Grover Cleveland Alexander, Tris Speaker and Babe Ruth.
