1917 Billy Sunday's Saints vs. Douglas Fairbanks' Sinners Panoramic Photograph

1917 Billy Sunday's Saints vs. Douglas Fairbanks' Sinners Panoramic Photograph

This incredible panoramic photograph is a from a 1917 benefit baseball game between Billy Sunday's Saints and Douglas Fairbanks' Sinners. The game was organized as a charity event to buy baseball equipment for the soldiers and sailors fighting in World War I. Evangelist Billy Sunday pulled together his Saints and Fairbanks brought the Vernon Tigers of the PCL in addition to an eclectic group of players like Charley Chech, Art Shafer, and wrestler Ed "The Strangler" Lewis to play for the Sinners. The Sinners ultimately won 1-0 in front of a crowd of 10,000 at Washington Park, the home park of the Los Angeles Angels. The 9x38" photo is in the original frame and appears close to EX with some minor spotting. Both Sunday and Fairbanks are in the group photo. The scope of this piece will really take your breath away. An absolute must-own.
