1917 Polo Grounds World Series Game Original Glass Plate Negative

1917 Polo Grounds World Series Game Original Glass Plate Negative

One-of-a-kind glass plate negative from the 1917 World Series between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Giants at the Polo Grounds. EX condition and still can be used to make prints, the negative measures 5x7" and is taken from behind the right field stands, with fans in the foreground and players on the field. Classic image only gives a hint to the unusual dimensions at the Polo Grounds due to its oval configuration; the right field fence was just 258 feet from home plate while the cavernous center field (off camera to the right) topped out at a titanic 483 feet. Taken by one of the Brown Bros. photographers, this is part of the collection that the photo service started compiling from its founding in 1904. Also comes with Type I image taken from the negative, likely around the 1930s.
