1918 Binghamton Bingoes Panoramic Photograph
Original panoramic photograph capturing sixteen members of the 1918 Binghamton Bingoes, a Class AA member of the International League. All but two of the team members are pictured in uniform as they pose standing shoulder to shoulder in front of the dugout. The photographer's handwritten photo credit and year, "Photo by Bennett 1918," are written along the base in black fountain pen. Although none of the players are identified, the Binghamton roster that season featured five players who had previously played in the Major Leagues: Sam Frock, Bill Kay, Polly McLarry, Jim Riley, and Pete Knisley (who we believe is the player pictured third from the right). The decade 1910-1920 was the "golden age" of baseball panoramas, but those of minor league teams remain scarce. This is the only example of a 1918 Binghamton Bingoes panoramic photo we have ever seen, let alone offered. Binghamton was one of the top clubs in the International League that season, finishing the year with a record of 85-38, which was one game behind the league champion Toronto Maple Leafs. The photo (33x7.25"; visible dimensions) displays two tiny insect holes in the image of the player pictured seventh from the right; otherwise it remains in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. It is housed in what appears to be its original frame. Total dimensions: 35x9.25". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
