1919-1926 Honus Wagner Cigar Box
Collectors of vintage cigar boxes will find much to like in this offering. Though the lid has been re-hinged, this is otherwise all original, with "HONUS WAGNER" stamped several times on the outside of the box. The inside lid has a photo of Wagner in a Louisville uniform from the 1890s (note, this is not a 19th century box but likely produced between 1919 and 1926, evidenced by the tax rectangle on the front of the box) and promoted the cigars in the Louisville area (thus, Wagner in a Louisville uniform). It is a very rare box that is a companion piece to the Honus Wagner cigar card, very interesting and historical in that it dispels some of the myth that Wagner was against smoking, as this is a smoking product with his name on it. Overall Good condition and displays as better, a piece with tremendous character. Only a handful of these exist, making them even rarer than the card. Measures 9x5x3", with some paper loss to labels and warped cover.
