1919 Black White Sox Fourth of July Program

1919 Black White Sox Fourth of July Program

Just three months before they became embroiled in scandal, the 1919 Chicago White Sox hosted Ty Cobb and the Tigers in a doubleheader at old Comiskey Park. This is only the second 1919 game program we have handled in 30+ years. Besides the "Eight Men Out" side story, there is a litany of historical connections here. World Series savior Eddie Cicotte went the distance in Game 1, improving his record to 14-4. Then in Game 2, the Sox won in walk-off fashion for the holiday sweep. Other than a couple of tears, this browning booklet rates VG+ overall and is a wonderful piece. The only other regular season 1919 Black Sox program that we know of was once owned by Charlie Sheen. Chicago ended the regular season with an AL-best 88-52 record before famously "throwing" the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. "Shoeless" Joe Jackson went 3-for-7 on the day.
