1919 Cincinnati Reds Imperial Team Cabinet Photograph
Imperial team cabinet photo picturing twenty-four members of the 1919 World Champion Cincinnati Reds. While this image could be found on a Cincinnati Reds team trade card at the time and has been reproduced in various periodicals, this is the only original photo we have seen, making it an extremely rare photographic souvenir of the 1919 World Champions. Each player is identified in print along the base, including manager Pat Moran, Edd Roush, Heinie Groh, Dolf Luque, Sherry Magee, Ivey Wingo, Jake Daubert, Rube Bressler, Greasy Neale, Morrie Rath, Larry Kopf, Slim Sallee, Dutch Ruether, and Hod Eller. The printed text along the top border reads "The Cincinnati Reds - 1919." The photographer's credit "Boellinger. Cincinnati," appears in white lettering at the bottom right. This photo was almost certainly produced prior to the 1919 World Series because the notation "Cincinnati Reds 1919 Champions" is neatly printed in black fountain pen above the player identifications, along with "Copyright Applied" in the lower right corner. Obviously, after the World Series, the photographer capitalized on the success of the team and licensed the image, as those printed notations can be seen on the aforementioned trade card and other reproduced examples. The photo (13.75x8.75") remains in Mint condition. The mount (16.5x10.5"; visible dimensions) displays a few light stains along the base. Framed to total dimensions of 18.5x12.75". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
