1919 "Cincy Kid" World Series Statue
Exceedingly rare - and possibly unique - plaster statue relates to the "other" team in the infamous 1919 World Series, the Cincinnati Reds. Standing roughly 8.5" tall with a plaster base measuring 3" in diameter, the statue is all white except for touches of red in the "C" logo on the hat, jersey logo, and on the socks. Etched into the side of the base is "Cincy Kid World Series" and the top of the base has the year 1919. Items of this nature may have been sold at or near that year's WS games played in Cincinnati, and while there were almost surely others made, we can't say that we've seen another and this may be the only surviving example due to its fragility. Even if there are others, it would be hard to top this EX-NM condition, in which the entire finish shows no visible chips or cracks save for a small area of finish loss to the top back of the base, which extends down into the "I" in "WORLD SERIES." The Reds were perhaps the biggest victims of the Black Sox scandal despite winning the championship in eight games when the Chicago White Sox tanked the best-of-9 series, as they may well have won anyway and their victory now remains tainted for all eternity.
