1919 Redland Field Panoramic Photograph (6.5x32”)
Ah, there it is, Redland Field, a.k.a. Crosley, home to the Cincinnati Reds for 58 years. Great to see an old ballpark in this form. One of the more unique and “old school” ballparks, wonderfully captured, in its entirety by this exceptional panorama. Photo taken in 1919, park flourishing with every seat filled to capacity, including the additional portable seats in the outfield. All persons in photo are dressed to the nines, to make it “picture perfect”. Although opening day was in fact May 18, 1912, this was likely taken after the renovations of 1919, which included the addition of portable seats in the outfield. Fans were sat right on the actual outfield. The original scoreboard you see located in right center field would be replaced in 1957. No permanent seats were ever placed in right center or left center, adding to the more personal feeling of this ballpark. The surrounding neighborhood was visible from home plate! Two 1.5” creases protrude from bottom edge with other light creasing along top right. Slight curling, o/w EX-MT. From the Roy Mitchell Estate. Mitchell only played in one opening day at Cincinnati – 1919.
