1919 World Series Cincinnati Reds Employees Pass PSA EX 5 (1 of 1 Only Known Example)
Offered is the opportunity to possess a 1919 Cincinnati Reds' employees' pass to that season's World Series, which matched the Reds against the heavily favored Chicago White Sox. The red-colored pass measures 2.25x4", and the spaces for games numbered 1-4 have been punched. The foregoing games were numbered as the first four of a possible five games to be played at Cincinnati's Redland Field as a part of the season's unusual best-of-nine World Series. The World Series started with two home wins for the Reds in the first two games of the Series. Then after Chicago won one of the next three games, all played at Chicago's Comiskey Park, the White Sox won two straight games at Cincinnati, but the Reds won at Chicago to clinch the World's Championship. At the end of the season in 1920, Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis suspended Joe Jackson, Chick Gandil, Buck Weaver, Eddie Cicotte and four other "Black Sox" for life, for associating with gamblers when the fix was discussed. In part, imprinted on the front of the pass: "The Cincinnati Base Ball Club Company EMPLOYEES' PASS WORLDS SERIES 1919." The pass is number 263, and "J.G. Simon," signed by an unknown hand, is written in blue ink from a fountain pen on a dotted line. The pass has been encapsulated and has been PSA graded as EX 5. The pass is in absolutely beautiful condition, and it recalls the events of one of the most memorable World Series of all time - the infamous Chicago Black Sox World Series in 1919. This is the only 1919 World Series employees' pass we have ever handled.
