1920's Georges Carpentier Bronze Bust by F. Goyers
Georges Carpentier (January 12, 1894 – October 28, 1975) was a French boxer. He fought mainly as a light heavyweight and heavyweight in a career lasting from 1908-26. Carpentier won the European Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight tiles during his career. He defeated Battling Levinsky to win the World Light Heavyweight Title. He fought Jack Dempsey in 1921 in what was the first million dollar gate in boxing history. Nicknamed the "Orchid Man", he stood 5 ft 11? in (1.82 m) but his fighting weight ranged from 125 to 175 lb (57 to 79 kg). Carpentier was known for his speed, his excellent boxing skills and his extremely hard punch. Offered here is a solid bronze bust of Georges carpentier. This magnificent piece of art was done by French artist, F.Goyers during the 1920’s and is signed on the bust by the artist. Exquisite attention was paid to detailing the facial features of the handsome French fighter. Beautiful patina. 22” high resting on a 6 ?” x 5 ?” marble base. This is unquestionably one of the finest bronze pieces of art of any sports figure brought to public sale. Slight rubbing at the nose, otherwise in fine condition.
