1920 Buffalo All-Americans Championship Fob - Presented to Ockie Anderson
1920 Buffalo All-Americans fob. Oscar "Ockie" Anderson played quarterback from 1914-16 at Colgate University, and was known as one of outstanding passers of his era. He was a consensus First Team All-American quarterback in in 1916, leading the team to a 8-1 record. Later, he played halfback,as well as quarterback, in the first year of the American Professional Football League, the forerunner of the NFL, and finished second in scoring in the league's inaugural season. He also was one of the league's top scorers in '21. During World War I, he served in the United States Army on the Western Front and was exposed to poisonous gas, which affected his health later in life. Engraved on the fob are "Oscar C Anderson", and "Left Half Back". Face reads "Buffalo, World's Pro Champions, 1920". Only three Buffalo fobs are known to exist.Fascinating background : Not only are these Buffalo fobs very scarce, but the "Championship" engraving is actually deceiving, representing more of an opinion than an actual fact. Buffalo had a 9-1-1 record, but with unbalanced schedules, the league champions were determined by a vote and the Akron Pros, by virtue of an undefeated record, were officially named champions.
