1920s Guy Bush "Fastball Grip" Type I Photograph by Charles Conlon - Signed by Conlon on Reverse (PSA)

Guy Bush was a right-handed pitcher who pitched for five National League teams but was primarily remembered for his tenure with the Chicago Cubs (1923-34). Presented is a Type I photograph of the fastball pitching grip of Bush by famed photographer Charles Conlon. Bush was in the National League from 1923-1938, and then again during World War II in 1945. During 1935-38, he pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Boston Bees, and the St. Louis Cardinals, and in '45 he was with the Cincinnati Reds. Bush had a lifetime record of 176-136, with a 3.86 ERA. When pitching for the Pirates at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, Bush was the pitcher for the final two home runs ever hit by Babe Ruth. Charles Conlon was a famed baseball photographer who started working for New York City newspapers in the early 1900s as a proofreader. He took up landscape photographer as a hobby. Later, the editor of the New York Early Telegraph, John B. Foster, who also edited the Spalding Base Ball Guide, urged Bush to take photos of Major League players for the guide. Bush then began his true calling as a famous baseball photographer who shot over 30,000 images of baseball players. The photo measures approx. 6.5x8.5", matted to approx. 7.5x8.75". On the back of the photo, Charles Conlon has written, in blue pencil, "Guy T. Bush (Cubs) Overhand fast ball." Then Conlon signed the page, using his last name, by writing "Conlon Photo." The photo shows the right hand of Bush gripping the baseball for an overhand fastball, and the photo includes the tear in the right sleeve of the pitcher. The Type I photo has been encapsulated and PSA certified with the Conlon autograph PSA graded as "AUTHENTIC."
