1920s Our Gang Football Photo
On the surface, this is a heart-warming 6 1/2 x 9 1/2” photo of seven of the “Our Gang” child actors costumed for a football game comedy short film, even using boxing gloves for shoulder pads. But for those in the know, “Our Gang” was a series that broke ground in many ways. Producer Hal Roach put boys and girls, black and white, together as equals as early as 1922 and, under the direction of Robert F. McGowan, had them act in a natural, unaffected style rather than the “cutesy” style and imitating adults which was the norm of the day. Including this piece in your collection allows you too to break new ground.
