1921 Jack Dempsey & Georges Carpentier Stone Lithographs (2)
These are two stone lithographs advertising the fight film for the Jack Dempsey vs. Georges Carpentier World Heavyweight Championship fought at Jersey Coty, New Jersey on July 2, 1921. Dempsey stopped Carpentier, the great French champion, in four rounds. This was the first million dollar gate in boxing and the first heavyweight championship to be broadcast by radio. These two magnificent lithographs picture individually Dempsey and Carpentier in full fight poses. The lithographs are one sheet size (approximately 26” x 40”) and are in marvelous condition. Both were issued in 1921 following the fight. These retain their bold color and exhibit only minor edge wear. Both are rare, the Carpentier is especially hard to find, and in this condition these lithographs are likely unique.
