1924 Aguilitas 2nd Series Alejandro Oms
He was a member of the Cuban Stars’ talented outfield trio that he formed with Martin Dihigo and Champion Mesa during the 1920’s. A colorful player, he entertained fans by catching fly balls behind his back in one-sided games. Oms made his greatest impact in his native Cuba, collecting 537 Cuban Winter League hits in 1531 at-bats for a lifetime .351 average. He won three batting crowns He batted approximately .325 during his Negro League career. He played on championship teams in Santa Clara, Havana, Almendares, and Cienfuegos. Small surface crease on obverse from left border to left side of his cap. Back looks as though it came out of a scrapbook or picture album. Technically grades VG, it appeals visually as a solid EX.
