1924 Babe Ruth Proctor's Card
His name commands unparalleled respect in both baseball and the hobby. So highly sought after, so coveted is his memorabilia it has been known to incite obsession in some collectors. We are proud to offer this prized relic from the barnstorming days of the Great Bambino, Babe Ruth. A truly one of a kind item, this gorgeous 1 5/8 x 2 7/8” Babe Ruth promotional card distributed in 1924 is from while the team toured upstate New York. Not to fill stadium seats, its purpose was to draw the crowds to the local vaudeville theatre, the now famous Proctor Theatre, where the real main attraction, Ruth, was moonlighting. The front displays a remarkably crisp image of the Babe seated on the dugout bench, his eyes focused intently on the game at hand or quite possibly a young beauty in the stands. Notably, he dons his Yankee pinstripes, a practice later forbidden by league officials who adamantly disapproved of their player’s extra-curricular activities. To the left his facsimile inscription reads, “To My Mount Vernon Admirers, “Babe Ruth”, Proctor Theatre Nov. 3-4-5” in white cursive. On the reverse, “Compliments of Mr. F.F. Proctor, To Babe Ruth’s Many Mt. Vernon Friends, Appearing At Proctor’s Mount Vernon, Nov. 3rd-4th-5th”, boldly stands out against its toned backdrop. Additionally, “1924 Ruth” has been handwritten in pencil just below the text. Its four evenly worn corners and a pair of small creases, one to the upper right corner the other along the upper border, contribute to the card’s technical grade of Good to VG. This is the only specimen of its kind to ever surface in the hobby.
