1924 Oscar Charleston Real Photo Adverting Postcard

1924 Oscar Charleston Real Photo Adverting Postcard

Smashing piece of the man considered by many to be the greatest Negro Leaguer of all. The only specimen known of this unposted card measures a unique 3.75x2.5". Awesome image of Charleston wearing the flag draped uniform of one of the finest Cuban teams ever, "Team Cuba" led by Charleston & Willie Foster. Verso with unique stamp of the pharmacy in Catalina ("Farmacia") this was given away for. Distributed around the time he led the Cuban teams to records that stood for decades, the accompanying negative (see lot below) is dated November 7, 1924. First generation with original photographer's cartouche stamped on the front. The multi-talented Charleston was said to have the speed and aggressiveness of Cobb; the look (barrel-chested & spindly-legged), demeanor (popular with youngsters), and power of Ruth; and the defensive style and skills of Speaker. EX-MT.
