1924 Reach Official American League Baseball Trophy Topper
Displayed is one of the most beautiful trophies you will ever see. It is meant to go on top of a loving cup. This was made by Reach and was sold to teams or leagues to award. Spalding had acquired the rights to produce National League baseballs around 1876. In 1889, Spalding acquired Reach. When the American League came into existence in 1901, Spalding produced American League baseballs under the Reach name. The trophy stands approx. 11.25" tall and has a diameter of 8.25" at the bottom. On top is a giant "Official" American League silver plated baseball. Engraved on the baseball is "REACH TRADE MARK." and "Official American league Ball Pat. Aug. 31 - 1909." Below the baseball are crossed bats. The foot of the trophy is engraved as "Genesee Y.M.C.A/Kensington Church League/Champions/1924/Emanuel Reformed." The silver-plated trophy has some tarnishing that gives it character. There is a small dent on the back of the baseball; otherwise, the trophy is in fine condition. The trophy evokes the "Roaring Twenties," that interval between wars and before the Great Depression; the pre-television days of almost a century ago, when baseball had to be seen LIVE. When most towns had their own amateur teams - which drew good crowds, and when church and industrial leagues were an integral part of American society.
