1925 A.L. Champion Washington Senators Baseball w/Ty Cobb
"I loved baseball when I was a boy. And, when I was 12 years old...I went to Griffith Stadium to watch the Washington Senators host the Detroit Tigers. I had never gone to a baseball game alone before. I was apprehensive about this adventure and for courage and for good luck my father gave me a Reach baseball to take with me." So begins the story of this remarkable piece of history. Little did our consignor know that when he first took hold of his newly acquired good luck charm that it would soon bear the signatures of several baseball legends, as well as members of the only Washington Senators team ever to win a World Series. For, after the game, as our consignor waited for the players to exit the stadium, he acquired a total of fourteen (14) bold black fountain pen signatures. Washington Senators: Walter Johnson, Goose Goslin, Stanley (Bucky) Harris, Harold (Muddy) Ruel, Joe Judge, Al Schacht, and former player Otto Williams all penned their names on the ball. In addition, Detroit Tigers: Ty Cobb (who our consignor says, "didn't strike me as being nearly as mean as people claimed he was"), Heinie Manush, Topper Rigney, Earl Whitehill, Ken Holloway, Jesse Doyle, and Larry Woodall left their mark on the ball as well. The baseball remains in almost new condition with only light amounts of visible soiling, while the signatures are exceptionally bold for an item of this vintage, and rate a 9-10 out of 10 in strength. The consignor was mistaken as to the year (1925 not 1924) but the ball is still an A.L. Championship.
