1925 Pottsville Maroons World Championship Pennant
This is the only one of its kind known and dates from the 1925 season, when the Maroons joined the NFL and played four seasons at the premier level of the sport. Though dominant on the field, a controversial suspension cost them the 1925 NFL Championship. However, the folks in that Pennsylvania mining town still considered their team champions, as evidenced by keepsakes such as this. The banner was hung from the lead car during the Championship parade through downtown Pottsville after the last game of the season. It was in the possession of Joseph Zacko from the conclusion of the parade up until the time that it was sold by the Zacko family several years ago. The pennant itself measures 34" x 9," the edges are a bit worn and the white lettering is a bit crackled but still grades VG. The Maroons moved to New England after the 1928 season and became the Boston Bulldogs.
