1926 World Series Original Photograph Collection (24) - Yankees vs. Cardinals

1926 World Series Original Photograph Collection (24) - Yankees vs. Cardinals

Collection of twenty-four original photographs capturing the action at the 1926 World Series between the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals. Twenty-three of the photos feature an "International Newsreel" credit stamp on the reverse, while twenty-two include the original paper news caption. It should be noted that this collection originally included four photos featuring Babe Ruth. Those photos were submitted to PSA by Lelands and all were certified as Type I examples (they are currently offered as individual lots elsewhere in this auction).

Of the twenty-two that feature the original paper news caption, four are dated "10-6-26," six are dated "10-7-26," three are dated "10-8-26," five are dated "10-9-26," three are dated "10-10-26," and one is undated. All the game-action photos appear to be taken from a high vantage point, perhaps the mezzanine level, and many capture players in the act of sliding into a base. Lou Gehrig is featured prominently in three photos playing first base, while other notables featured here include Hall of Famers Tony Lazzeri, Billy Southworth, Chic Hafey, and Rogers Hornsby.

Two of the photos are duplicate images, while a few others represent closeups. The two photos that do not capture game action from the Series are an individual shot of Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Landis and one picturing the Mayor of St. Louis throwing out the first pitch prior to Game 3. All the photos measure 8x10", except for the two non game-action photos (8.5x6.5"). As working press photos, many display minor flaws common to such images, including, but not limited to, creases, edge tears, chips, and light staining. Good condition overall.
