1927 Cincinnati Reds Game Worn Uniform Worn by Pid Purdy
Both gorgeous and rare, this Cincinnati Reds jersey circa 1927 was worn by professional two-sport athlete Everett "Pid" Purdy. Inhabiting the fabulous style similar to the 1919 team that "beat" the Black Sox, this complete uniform includes the jersey, pants and leggings. The fashionable style is comprised of road gray flannel with blue pinstripes. The familiar Goldsmith tag is in the collar, and of course, there's the handsome "CReds" felt insignia in red and with black felt on the front. "Purdy" is stitched inside the front tail, and the sleeves are trimmed, which was common practice at the time. Besides that, the ensemble is in wonderful condition. The matching pants have "Purdy" stitched in the fly area, and there is some red staining below the knees. The leggings are red and white with some staining and team repairs. After spending the majority of his career toiling in the minor leagues, primarily in his home state of Nebraska, Purdy made it up to the Reds in 1927 and also played for the Green Bay Packers in 1926 and 1927. One of only a few 1920s Reds jerseys known to exist, this Purdy one is really pretty.
