1927 Fro-Joy Gene Tunney Card Set

1927 Fro-Joy Gene Tunney Card Set

World Heavyweight Champion from 1926-28, Gene Tunney twice defeated the legendary Jack Dempsey. Tunney's title defense against Dempsey, known as "The Long Count Fight," is one of boxing's most famous and oft-discussed bouts. These six cards, from ice cream maker Fro-Joy, were printed in 1927 in the midst of Tunney's championship reign. They are rated by SGC as follows: card #6 -- Gene Tunney in the corner of a ring in boxing gear is graded 50 VG/EX 4; card #4 -- headshot of Tunney in a suit is graded 40 VG 3; card #5 -- sideways shot of Tunney from shoulder up with gloved hands is graded 30 GOOD 2; card #3 -- shirtless shot of Tunney from chest up is graded 30 GOOD 2; card #2 -- full-body shot of Tunney in old-style boxing stance is graded 40 VG 3; card #1 -- full-body shot of Tunney with guard up is graded 40 VG 3. These six cards all look very nice.
