1927 Jack Dempsey vs. Gene Tunney Color Panorama

1927 Jack Dempsey vs. Gene Tunney Color Panorama

On September 22, 1927 at Soldiers Field in Chicago heavyweight champion Gene Tunney defended his title against the man he won it from a year earlier, Jack Dempsey. Dempsey put Tunney down, but referee Dave Barry hesitated to count Tunney out as he escorted Dempsey to a neutral corner. Tunney arose from the "long count" to win a unanimous ten round decision. Offered here is an absolutely fabulous color panorama from this historic event. The copyright is 1927 by the noted photographers Kaufmann Fabry of Chicago. Inserted at the top are a photo of promoter Tex Rickard and an exhibit card of the "Long Count," and at the bottom images of Dempsey and Tunney. Incredible, vibrant color. No stains are evident. Incredibly rare, the only example we have seen. 20" x 56."
