1928 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Barnstorming Tour Original Negative
Brilliant and historic shot of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in seldom-seen setting in 1928. Kicking off their barnstorming tour, the Yankees legends are shown in full western garb as part of a fundraising campaign for the "World Series Rodeo" being held at Madison Square Garden. This 8x10" original from-the-camera negative is one of a kind and shows Babe straddling the hood of a car and "riding" it like the steer it's dressed as. The Yankees won that year's World Series and Gehrig blasted a homer as the Bushwick All-Stars defeated Ruth's All-Stars in what was the only game on the tour in which both players participated for the same team. Stellar specimen from the Brown Brothers collection, just one of many vintage gems in this auction.
