1928 Babe Ruth Signing Baseballs for "Speedy"

1928 Babe Ruth Signing Baseballs for "Speedy"

Spectacular Type I photograph shows Ruth in his most natural habitat: signing baseballs for kids. He is in Los Angeles promoting the silent film "Speedy", starring golden age comedian Harold Lloyd, in which Ruth had a cameo appearance as himself in Lloyd's taxicab. Contrast is perfect as this is the highest quality photography of the time, courtesy of Hollywood/Paramount Studios glamour photographer Henry N. Kohler. The Babe is surrounded by throngs of uniformed children (non-actors) from a local Los Angeles Jesuit school reminiscent of St. Mary's, the Baltimore orphanage where Ruth was raised. Look at their faces, this is true photo realism. They are in heaven to be not only in the presence of Babe Ruth, but are in line to get the ultimate treasure: a Babe Ruth signed baseball. Condition is near perfect on this doubleweight gem.
