1928 Notre Dame vs. Army "Win One For The Gipper" Football Program

1928 Notre Dame vs. Army "Win One For The Gipper" Football Program

Here's a tough to find original game program from one of the most historic games in any sport. The legend is that George Gipp, from his hospital bed, delivered the famous speech to the great Knute Rockne: "I've got to go, Rock. It's all right. I'm not afraid. Some time, Rock, when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys, ask them to go in there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock. But I'll know about it, and I'll be happy." Rockne used this to rally Notre Dame to a 12-6 upset of undefeated Army, with Jack Chevigny (who was KIA in Iwo Jima) scoring the famous "That's One for the Gipper" touchdown. Later used as a political slogan by Ronald Reagan, who portrayed Gipp in the 1940 film "Knute Rockne, All American" and was often referred to as "The Gipper." He used the phrase most famously at the 1988 Republican National Convention when he told VP George Bush, "George, go out there and win one for the Gipper." In turn, at the 2004 Republican Convention Bush honored the recently deceased President, "This time we can truly win one for the Gipper." Vintage writing on the cover is by the original owner r.e. "My first big game..." otherwise EX with some archival tape on inside spine.
