1928 Paul Waner Lucky Strike Advertising Sign

1928 Paul Waner Lucky Strike Advertising Sign

Pittsburgh Pirates star outfielder Paul Waner goes to bat for Lucky Strike Cigarettes in this colorful 1928 advertising sign. The sign features the large Lucky Strike logo, along with an illustrated likeness of Waner in a batting pose. Waner's glowing endorsement, printed to the right of his image, reads "Luckies give me pleasure without taxing my wind or irritating my throat." As noted in print along the top border, Waner was the reigning National League MVP at the time of this advertising campaign, making him an ideal spokesperson for the company's cigarettes. This sign, which was intended for display in trolley cars, was one in a series of five similar Lucky Strike advertisements, each of which featured a prominent baseball star. The sign (20x10.5", visible dimensions) displays a few minor creases and several small tears that have been professionally restored. Excellent in its overall appearance. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 30x20 inches. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
