1929 Jimmie Foxx Leads A.L. Sluggers Type I Photo

1929 Jimmie Foxx Leads A.L. Sluggers Type I Photo

This photo is in the year that the Philadelphia A's young Jimmie Foxx, nicknamed "Double X," had his breakout year and truly became "The Beast." Shown here taking a practice swing, with his eye on the ball, the twenty-one year old Foxx had his eye on the ball all season, and soon the country had its eyes on him, as he made the cover of Time Magazine. Foxx hit .354 in '29, with 33 homers and 118 RBI as the future HOF first baseman helped the Connie Mack A's to the American League pennant and a World Series win over the Chicago Cubs.
