1930's Popeye Huber Vaudeville Boxing Trunk & Gloves
Wonderful complete setup of the Baltimore area boxing clown known as John "Popeye" Huber. A serious fighter, he also clowned in the ring and looked and dressed like the comic character Popeye. Trunk has handpainted folk art images of Popeye on the sides and back. Front reads, "Popeye Huber Lightweight Clown of the World." Inside is his fight worn Spalding gloves from the 1930's. There is also a great deal of personal effects: photos, vaudeville tintypes, business card, real photo boxing postcard, boxing promo, boxing letters, & newspaper articles (one showing this very trunk). 11x7x23". Trunk is overall VG with some wear to the front paint.
