1930s Ab Jenkins World Record "Mormon Meteor" Hand Made Duesenberg Prototype
Here's a great piece, recently de-accessed from Los Angeles' Helms Museum, one of the world's great sports collections. Awesome 15" hand painted, hand carved wood model of Ab Jenkins speed record setting "MORMON METEOR" Duesenberg. Jenkins was the King of the Bonneville Salt Flats and was instrumental in bringing in drivers there from all over the world, making it the legendary site it is today. He set the record in 1935 with an average speed of 135 miles per hour. His popularity was so great in Utah that he was elected mayor of Salt Lake City, a post he held for 16 years, without spending any money nor giving one speech. This beautiful model has been customized to match his record setting car right down to the painted details on the fin. Displays some cracking diagonally along the bottom of the fin, and the "L" shaped bar of metal screwed into the bottom was for museum display. One of the more interesting pieces you will see in that this is a prototype model used by the manufacturer in design.
