1930s Bannersports Lou Gehrig Store Model Glove

1930s Bannersports Lou Gehrig Store Model Glove

Store model Lou Gehrig first baseman's mitt from the '30s is in incredible condition for its age, all the more amazing for a speciality item nearly impossible to find these days. The Bannersports glove was clearly crafted with great care, which may have been a stipulation of Lou's for allowing his name to be imprinted on the pocket. The "Genuine Steerhide" leather is soft and plush, the caramel colored surface darkened in the pocket area by a good coating of linseed oil and fist pounding, and the laces tightly bound. Buckle wrist strap is lined with fur on the underside and firmly fixed in the middle hole. Boxy looking mitt is approx. 8 x 8 1/2" and a solid EX/EX-MT with only a small amount of erosion along the edges. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer example.
