1930s Barber's Chair Used by Ted Williams & Bobby Doerr

1930s Barber's Chair Used by Ted Williams & Bobby Doerr

State of the art vintage barber's chair was originally used by the barber for the Minneapolis Millers including the 1938 season when a young Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr played for the Millers. The manager of the team Donny Bush, would bring the entire team all at once in a school bus to get haircuts. The locally famous barber "Smitty", his son still cuts hair there at the age of 90 and sold this chair to our consignor a major Williams fan involved in Ted's affairs. This attention grabber has been wonderfully restored to its original state and in working order. Masterful piece was manufactured by the Koken Barbers Supply Company from St. Louis, Missouri, the true innovators in the field of barber. First to bring in the hydraulic lift, their chairs today are the price of the field. Look at the workmanship here: plush red leather seat, with elaborate back rest and arms rests as well. It appears to be literally bathed in chrome with fancy, ornate metal designs throughout. The chair is in excellent condition and regardless of the baseball celebrity connection (the two icons Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr having sat in it), this is a marvelous piece of Americana that more than stands on its own. Or sits. The lot will require special shipping arrangements. There is a documentary about Bobby Doerr "The Silent Captain, where Doerr tells the story of Donnie Bush and the Millers' haircuts by Smitty.
