1930s Nathan Mann Worn Boxing Gloves and Original Oil Painting - Fought Joe Louis for Title
He was born Natalino Manchetti and in the 1930s went from 15-year-old New Haven neighborhood kid to fighting Joe Louis for the title at Madison Square Garden in 1938, simply because a delivery man noticed him punching a bag in his parents' garage and spotted a diamond in the rough. Here are a pair of Nathan Mann's worn boxing gloves, as well as an original oil painting measuring 18x33". The artist's name - "Backstrom" - is signed on the lower right. Though he never got another shot at the title, Mann's career lasted another 10 years and he lived to age 84.
