1930s Newt Allen Kansas City Monarchs Game Worn Uniform
Obtained directly from Allen by pioneering Negro League collector, Elvin Rawlings. A double play specialist, Allen was considered the best second baseman of the '20s and '30s. He enjoyed a 22-year career almost entirely with the Monarchs. He had the honor of playing with a stable of Kansas City Monarch pitchers including the legendary Satchel Paige, Chet Brewer and Bullet Joe Rogan. Obtained directly from Allen, this important relic is being seen publicly for the first time. Amazing style with the huge "Kansas City Monarchs" across the chest. The letters are in double-layered red on blue felt against the classic gray flannel body with embroidered red and blue piping on the sleeves and placket giving this a purely "American" look. Matching "3" on the verso in the old style "small" numbers. The collar has three tags with the "Gateway" of Kansas City manufacturer's tag, size 40, and a blank tag for the player's name. Pants are from Dodge Davis Flannel and piping perfectly matches the jersey. In exceptional condition, this is the most desirable of all Monarchs (and Negro League) styles. The New York Yankees of the Negro Leagues, the Monarchs won more than a dozen championships. The longest running franchise in NL history, they were charter members of the Negro National League (1920), and were black baseball's glamour franchise. The finest Negro League uniform that has ever been offered for sale.
