1930s Wayne Millner Game Worn Boston/Washington Redskins Helmet (ex-Wayne Millner Estate)
Clsssic leather football helmet was owned and worn by Hall of Fame end Wayne Millner of the Boston & Washington Redskins. The last of the two-way ends, Willner was a Notre Dame alumnus who when he joined the Redskins in '36, the coach promised to resign if "we don't win the championship with that big Yankee." The 'Skins did win that year, and beyond. Millner's gritty play led to his 1968 Canton enshrinement. Irresistible brown & white leather helmet is a gorgeous Nokona with appropriately inappropriate Indian head company logo inside the crown. The chin strap is still intact and the helmet shows goid use but is in excellent condition. We sold this helmet in December, 2004 (lot #2031). Comes with copies of letters from two hobby equipment specialists. One, states he got it directly from the Millner estate, this was a top of the line style of the time, and the first HOF leather helmet they have ever seen offered. The second, states it is a top of the line helmet and was in the Nokona line from 1935-38 with copy of a catalogue page picturing it, plus other various ducumemtation. Most importantly, the original source is the estate of Wayne Millner himself. There is an original letter of authenticity from the son of Wayne Millner's attorney, Mr. Charles L. Widman, Esquire who handled the estate. It begins, "This football helmet was the property of Hall-of-Famer Wayne Millner..." The rest bleeds Redskins history.
