1930s WPA-Style "High Rise Baseball" Painting & Game Board
A marvelous piece of American folk art, this doubles as a pinning and as a game. In pure WPA style, the stadium is fenced in by skyscraper behemoths of the future similar to Lillian Hellman's "Dead End." This serves as both a masterful painting and a real game played with dice. Directions are added to the tops of these flat-headed urban projectiles along with an All-American green baseball diamond. The surrounding crowd is artfully done. The raise-lipped frame is also functional to prevent the dice from falling off the board. And to complete the picture, a hole on top for hanging back on the wall once you are finished playing, creating a work of art once again. Artist signed on verso "E.B.L."
