1932 Jack Johnson & Champions Madison Square Garden Signed Promo Photo (11x14")
This spectacular photograph is a promotional for the 1932 Jack Oakie film Madison Square Garden and featured these leg-endary former champions; Jack Johnson, Bill Papke, Tommy Ryan, S. Zbepzko, Mike Donlin, Tom Sharkey and Ted Sloan. All are signed in mint ink, including the inscription at top "Sincerest wishes 'Dick Shippey, a regular boxing fan, from 'we'…Good luck…Former Champions." The photo is slightly creased at two corners but is o/w EX-MT. These champions portrayed employees of the Garden (wearing the actual uniforms). The photos were taken at the old Garden. Sharkey is the Security Guard, Ryan a Doorman, Donlin "Head Usher", and sadly enough Jack Johnson in the Stepin Fetchit role as the black "Porter." Ex-Don Hoffman Collection.
