1933 Walter Johnson First Game as Cleveland Indians Manager Photograph (PSA Type I)

1933 Walter Johnson First Game as Cleveland Indians Manager Photograph (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph capturing Walter Johnson as manager of the Cleveland Indians. As noted by the original Acme news caption (dated June 11, 1933) on the reverse, this image represents the first photo of Johnson in a Cleveland Indians uniform. Johnson took over the managerial reigns with Cleveland after Roger Peckinpaugh was fired in mid-season. Unfortunately for the "Big Train," the club fared no better under his guidance, and finished in fourth place, with a record of 75-76. Johnson remained with the club for another year and a half before being let go in mid-season of the 1935 season. An "Acme Photo" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the aforementioned news caption and a few handwritten notations. The photo (7x9") displays a small chip in the lower right corner and light creasing. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
