1934 Babe Ruth/Joe McCarthy Acme Photograph (PSA Type I)

1934 Babe Ruth/Joe McCarthy Acme Photograph (PSA Type I)

Presented is an unusual, original Type I photo. The photo contains a press description on the reverse that details the setting as the New York Yankees spring training site at St. Petersburg, Florida on March 7, 1934. On the left in the photo is Joe McCarthy, the Yankees' manager and later a Hall of Famer who managed MLB teams to eight pennants and won seven Yankee World Series titles. McCarthy's managerial tenure with the Yankees lasted from 1931-1946. McCarthy and Ruth frequently clashed over the years, but here all seems peaceful as Ruth, in spiffy civilian clothes with stylish two-tone shoes, stands with McCarthy around the batting cage. This 1934 season would prove to be Ruth's final year with the Bronx Bombers. The Hall of Famer did hit .288 with 22 home runs and 84 RBIs that year, good stats for most ball players, but very low for the Babe. Ruth played part of the next season for the Boston Braves and retired during the season. The 5.75x7" Acme News Pictures black and white photo has been graded by PSA as Authentic.
