1935 Babe Ruth Boston Braves Game Used Hat
George Herman Ruth, better known as the Great Bambino, the Sultan of Swat, or simply as "Babe," may just be the most well-known and thoroughly celebrated ball player to ever swing a bat. He's been written about in countless books and articles, portrayed in films, referenced in an almost intimidating amount of pop culture, and discussed by baseball aficionados and historians since his introduction. Not an easy man to forget, to say the least. During his over twenty-year-long career, the Babe sparkled on the diamond, crushing an outstanding 714 Home Runs, wailing 2,873 hits, sending 2,217 players to home base, and maintaining an unreal .342 career batting average. His recognition is of no wonder; Ruth had the chops to stand head-and-shoulders above any Hall-of-Fame legends from his day, as well as the greatest prospects of the modern league. This red and navy Boston Braves cap was worn by Ruth in his final season as a profesional ball player. While best known as a Yankee, Ruth was sold in 1934 to the Massachusets ball club and finished out his waning days in uniform there. Marred only by a slight separation of the felt near the corners of its brim, this hat is in jaw-dropping shape. With "G.Ruth" sewn into the leather band around the inside of the hat, there is little question as to whom this cap belonged. The classic Boston Braves "B" is embroidered on its front, while the Spalding logo has been stamped into the interior leather. This cap could be his last ever worn as a player, the very one worn during Ruth's final two home runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It comes with an LOA from the Ray Mueller family, stating that the hat was in their private collection until being sold just a few years ago.
